History of department

The Department of Medical Laboratory Science and Biotechnology was originally named as “School of Technology for Medical Sciences” and was established in 1981. The School was divided into Medical Laboratory Technique and Radiological Technique divisions in 1994.

Founding of this department is to promote the development of education and research on clinical laboratory and cultivate high standard medical technologist in southern Taiwan. For the trend of biotechnology in life sciences and further advanced education in cultivating well-trained medical technologist, the master program of the department was established in 2004, and the department was changed to “Faculty of Biomedical Laboratory Science” as well.

In 2008, not only Ph.D. program of the department was established for its development in bio-medical sciences, but also the department was renamed to “Medical Laboratory Science and Biotechnology”.

In 2010, the Bachelor Program in Biomedical Sciences was established specifically for training Gambian students under the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences and Biotechnology.
